Aysén’s traditional country festivals

January and February: jineteadas (bronc riding), sheep shearing, asado al palo (meat roasted on a stake over an open fire), and chamamé folk music in the towns of the interior.

In summer almost every town in Aysén holds its own festival: handicraft displays, horse breaking, hand shearing with blades, country cooking, and dancing until late. These are festivals by and for local people that visitors simply show up to, and that’s exactly why they work so well.

The calendar comes together as the season approaches; the events section lists the ones that repeat every year.
